Richard James Simon, Jr.

Richard James Simon, Jr., age 75 of Belleville, IL, born February 27, 1943 in St. Louis, MO passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Belleville, IL.

Rich dedicated more than 50 years to the door and hardware industry serving the St. Louis region as well as central and southern Illinois. He was active in the Door and Hardware Institute earning the certifications of Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) and Certified Door Consultant (CDC). He was a past president of the St. Louis Chapter of the Door and Hardware Institute as well as a regional director and grader for the National Door and Hardware Institute.

For the past two years he lived at The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL where he was involved with many community projects. He was a Marine veteran, an avid Notre Dame and Cubs fan, and a former president of the Drost Park Khoury League in Maryville, IL. Education for his children was very important to him, allowing them to pursue their choice of where to attend college.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard James Simon, Sr. and Cecelia nee Fahntrapp Simon; one grandchild, Natalie Simon; and a sister, Patricia Kingston.

He is survived by five children: Corina (Josh) Hamilton of Collinsville, IL, Christopher (Susan) Simon of Chesapeake, VA, Richard (Amy) Simon of Bethalto, IL, Dawn (Howard) Simon of CA, and Lance Simon of MO; six grandchildren: Ben Simon, Emily Simon, David (Samantha) Jordan, Nathan Simon, Beckett Simon and Callum Simon Hamilton; three sisters: Mary Kay (Jim) Hoff, Marge Erdell and Sharon (Jerry) Bracken; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3pm to 7pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. Following the visitation everyone is invited to The Lakehouse (located next to the funeral home) for refreshments.

Funeral service will be 10am on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the funeral home with James Rennie officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Drost Park Khoury League and will be received at the funeral home.
