Gene Alton Johnson

Gene Alton Johnson, age 72 of Caseyville, IL, born January 27, 1940 in Pineville, LA, passed away 8:25 am Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his residence.

Gene owned and operated the Sandwich Shop Restaurant in Collinsville and more recently the Happy Cow Restaurant in Caseyville, IL.  He was a past president of the Collinsville Soccer Club and lifetime member, founded the Gateway Soccer Tournament, coached soccer at McKendree College, and enjoyed fishing.  He was a Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny C. Johnson, and a stepfather, Kenneth Paugh.

He is survived by his mother, Lillian nee Perkins Paugh of Oakdale, LA; two sons: Shane Johnson of Collinsville, Tim (Carrie) Johnson of Collinsville; two daughters: Jennifer (Mark) D’Addio of Virginia, Julie Johnson of Collinsville; four grandchildren: Brendon and Grahm Johnson, Isabella D’Addio and Lexi Johnson; two brothers: Wayne Johnson of Oakdale, LA, John (Claire) Paugh of Texas; two sisters: Sondra West of Oakdale, LA, Debra (Rick) Fitch of Oakdale, LA; former wife, Judy nee Kosten Johnson of Collinsville; a special friend, Cheryl Lauer of Caseyville; aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 1pm to 4pm Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL.

Memorial service will be at 4pm Sunday at Barry Wilson Funeral Home with the Deacon Dave Bohnenstiehl officiating.
