Obituary

Allen Joe Burgess, age 76 of Collinsville, IL, born May 4, 1948 in Princeton, IN, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Allen was retired from the U.S. Post Office. He honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, enjoyed being outdoors, was artistic, liked to draw, and enjoyed woodworking. He loved spending time with his grandkids and spoiling them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Joe & Alyce Lahoma (nee Smith) Burgess, and step father Herbert (Bud) Seago.

He is survived by his three children: Jarrod (Tara) Burgess of O'Fallon, IL, Katherine (Christian) Villegas of San Diego, CA, and Melissa (Brandon) Catania of Poway, CA; five grandchildren: Michael Moran, Jacob Catania, Isabella Catania, Olivianna Burgess, and Lincoln Burgess; his twin sister, Sue Burgess Galloway of Cape Cod, MA; sister, Debbie (Max) Burgess Segovia of Burley, ID; nephew, Brian (Tina) Galloway; niece, Cassandra (Ed) Samora; and great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside service with military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Procession will leave Barry Wilson Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Wounded Warriors and will be received at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
