Obituary

Barbara Lou (nee Schultze) Burstadt, age 89, of Collinsville, IL, was called by her Lord to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

She made thousands of friends over her 89 years and often said she was never depressed one day in her life.  She worked as an automotive bookkeeper at Brodhead Pontiac, Norwine Chevrolet and Big 4 Chevrolet.  During retirement, she volunteered as a bookkeeper for the Anderson Hospital Auxiliary in the Anderson Hospital Gift Shop with her many friends.  In addition, she was a volunteer usher at the Fabulous Fox Theatre for 10 years.  Her great loves were quilting with the ladies at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving in the LWML at the church, and helping in the office of Good Shepherd Lutheran School along side her good friend, Kathy Whitworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl B. and Grace (nee Willoughby) Schultze; her brother, Carl W. Schultze; and her brother-in-law, Robert Hess.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 68 years, Elmer L. Burstadt, whom she married May 2, 1952; her son, Michael A. (Dr. Gerusa Mello-Burstadt) Burstadt of Fort Lauderdale, FL; her daughter, Rebecca A. (Todd) Bearden of Orlando, FL; beloved grandchildren:  Christopher M. Burstadt, Andrew W. (Jennifer) Burstadt, Samuel Bearden and Grace Bearden; a sister, Betty Hess; and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Schultze.

Also surviving are dear nieces and nephews:  Belinda Schultze, Laura Schultze, Lisa Durham, Brian Hess, Boyd Hess, Bradley Hess as well as her great nephews, Jacob Durham, Matt Hess, Nate Hess; and grandniece, Taylor Hess.

Barbara greatly loved her extended family, Roberto Bollick, Flavia (Smsgt Wayne) Tokarz and Andrew Anderson along with Alex Tokarz and her dear love, Tyler Gisele Palmer.

In accordance with her wishes, her remains will be cremated and the family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Anderson Hospital Foundation, or Hospice of Southern IL and will be received at the funeral home.
