Barbara J. Henderson, 89, of Maryville, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL.

Born on April 2, 1937, in Harrisburg, IL, Barbara was the daughter of the late Truman and Beulah (nee Dixon) Yates. She was a proud graduate of Harrisburg High School and built a successful career working as a real estate sales agent, in insurance sales, and in administrative positions at Ralston Purina.

Barbara found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved reading, playing cards and bingo, collecting jewelry, shopping for clothes, creating beautiful flower arrangements, and listening to country music. She especially treasured the time she spent with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Henderson; two sisters and their husbands, Anna Mae and Robert Gaskins and Betty Lou and Jack Land; and two daughters-in-law, Mary Barger and Karen S. Barger.

She is survived by her loving sons, Bruce (Karen L.) Barger of Wentzville, MO, and Alan (Vicki) Barger of Caseyville, IL; and daughter-in-law, Deanna Hunt. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Eric (Pam) Barger, Nathan Smith, Jason (Liz) Barton, Chrissy (Aaron) Jenkins, Matt (Erin) Barger, Jennifer Barnes, and Nikki Barnes; 11 great-grandchildren: Maren, Elliott, Conley, Lauren, Ashley, Matthew, Penelope, Landon, Laynie, Aiden, and Alyssa; and her dearest lifelong friend, Sue Biggs, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.

A funeral service will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Lee Swallows officiating.

Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Harrisburg, IL.
