Bernard (Bernie) L. Kunz, age 91 of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

He was born February 25,1933 in Donnellson, IL to the late John and Audrey (nee Prickett) Kunz. He married JoAnn Rosenthal on November 16,1957 and she survives.

Bernie honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He made his career working as a design/mechanical engineer in refrigeration. He was a longtime member of First United Presbyterian Church in Collinsville, a member of the past Masonic Lodge, St. Louis Engineers Club, and the CMT YMCA Coffee Club. In addition he was avid woodworker.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Urioste; a brother, Bill Kunz; a sister, Ida June Howard; and a brother-in-law, Randy Rosenthal.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 66 years, JoAnn Kunz.  Also survived by 2 sons, Brad (Linda) Kunz of Collinsville and Brian (Kathy) Kunz of Collinsville; three grandchildren: Meagan Kunz, Jason (Nikki) Kunz, and Sarah (Tim) Crone; as well as three great-grandchildren: Hayden (Katie) Day, Jonah and Harper Kunz; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law: Jim (Pat) Rosenthal, Junior (Sandy) Rosenthal, Emily Rosenthal and Larry Rosenthal.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at First United Presbyterian Church, 201 E Church St, Collinsville, IL 62234.

Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Zach Lysdahl officiating. A private burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later-date.
