Obituary

Bernard "Bernie" Mayer Landau, age 91 of Springfield, MO, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at his residence.

Bernie was born in St. Louis, MO on November 20, 1931 to the late Max Bernard and Annabelle (nee Westermann) Landau.  He retired from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel after 29 years of service. He was awarded the Purple Heart and 23 other medals for his bravery and merit. He loved being outside working in his garden, playing tennis, racquetball, running track, and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana (nee Jones) Landau; daughter, Laura Wiesehan; twin brother, Herman Landau; and sister, Betty Hall.

Surviving are his three children:  Elizabeth (Doug) Landau-Dawkins; Shawn (Howard) Taylor, and William (Deb) McKelvie; and seven grandchildren.

Graveside service with military honors will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.

Memorials are suggested to Operation Heal Our Patriots and will be received at the funeral home.  Donations can be dropped off or mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
