Bessie C. Brunkhorst, age 95 of Collinsville, IL, born June 30, 1928, in Jackson County, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in her home surrounded by family.

Bessie had so many talents, but the best one was being Ronald, Herbert, Brenda, and Norma's mother. She had many hobbies. No words can explain the greatness of this woman. She lived 95 years through so many different eras of history. Greatness as an example of humanity and an example of what a God loving woman should be as a wife and mother who enjoyed her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded by her husband, Herbert E. Brunkhorst, whom she married May 28, 1949; parents: Charles and Etta Mary (nee Harold) Childers; six brothers; and five sisters. She was the last survivor of 12 children.  She was also preceded by her son-in-law, Jeffrey D. Nelson.

She is survived by two sons: Ronald L. (Terry) Childers of Cahokia, IL, and Herbert L. (Tina) Brunkhorst of Palm Bay, FL; two daughters: Brenda L. Brunkhorst of Sparta, IL, and Norma Nelson of Collinsville, IL; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and our deepest friend, Ruth Scheibe.
