Carl "Ed"
Edward Ogle
Nov 17, 1943 — Oct 29, 2021
Collinsville
Carl Edward Ogle, known to most as Ed, passed away peacefully after a short but intense battle with cancer on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
If you knew Ed, you wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was cracking jokes with all of his nurses through his last good days, and was affectionately known as the resident comedian on the hospital floor. Ed was loved by all who knew him, and never met a stranger. He was the most generous penny pincher to ever live.
Ed was born and raised in Collinsville, IL, and was a proud Kahok from the class of 1962. He loved to reminisce about being part of the state championship basketball team, as manager for the Kahoks. Ed went on to graduate from McKendree College before beginning a very successful lifelong career in sales. An exceptional salesman, Ed worked for over 25 years for American Copy Systems in Fenton, MO, winning numerous awards and several all inclusive trips through the years. He was "Salesman of the Year" in 1986, 1989, and 1992, and "Employee of the Year" in 1985 and 1990. Ed continued his career in sales with Williams Office Products in Alton, IL, where he was beloved by his co-workers and the Alton community, until his retirement in 2008. He was an active member of the Collinsville Kiwanis for many years, winning "Kiwanian of the Year" in 1995-96.
A member since his youth, Ed was also very active with the United Methodist Church of Collinsville. He served on several committees for the church, and volunteered numerous hours at the soup kitchen and Italian Festival. Ed spent his later years cruising around on his scooter in the neighborhood, walking his beloved Boston Terrier, Sadie Girl. He led an active social life, including weekly breakfast dates at Denny's, Sunday lunches with his sister and friends, and monthly poker nights up until last year. Ed loved to fish and bird hunt. He enjoyed many fishing trips over the years with friends, and loved trying to find a new honey hole on whatever military post his daughter and son-in-law were stationed. Ed's greatest love of all was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Edward Sr. and Ruby Fern (nee Walker) Ogle.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Ogle ( nee Bromolich ) of 49 years; son, Mike (Kim) Ogle; and daughter, Karla (Mark) Gadell. He leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren, whom he adored and talked about constantly: Blake Ogle, Colin Ogle, Gavin Gadell, Grace Gadell, and Ruthie Jo Gadell. Ed also leaves behind his sister, Penny (Harland) Scheibal, and many nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. Due to current state restrictions, masks are required to be worn.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the funeral home with Rev. Mike Barclay officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL.
