Obituary

Carole Aline Cardinal, age 74 of Troy, Illinois, passed away June 30, 2024 after a long illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, strength, and cherished memories. Married August 22, 1970, she was the devoted wife of Gerald "Jerry" Cardinal and a loving mother to Kelli (Michael) Lafin of Oswego, Illinois, and Jason (Lyndsay) Cardinal of Granite City, Illinois. Carole was also a proud grandmother to Chase and Blake Lafin and Connor and Caroline Cardinal.

Born in Alexandria, Louisiana on February 18, 1950, Carole was the cherished daughter of Maurice and Irving "Woody" Woodington, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Susan (Charles) Harrell of Covington, Louisiana, sister-in-law Terry Cardinal of New Hartford, New York and her nephews Brandon (Celeste) Harrell, Chase Woodington, and Michael Murray and nieces Lauren Harrell, Tachele (Joel) Ward, Jill Ulinski, and Mary Lou Krawiec. Her sister-in-law, Suzanne Cardinal also preceded her in death.

Carole's children and grandchildren were her greatest love. Carole found immense joy in creating a beautiful and loving home. She spent her days tending to her always stunning yard, watching Cardinals baseball games, caring for her beloved furry and feathered "kids," cooking wonderful southern meals for her family, and golfing with Jerry and friends. Her love for her home and family was evident in everything she did. She was often described as having a "heart of gold." Carole's endless love, faith in God, warmth, kindness, strength, and dedication to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was a pillar of unwavering support, love, and guidance, always ensuring her family felt cherished and valued. As a supportive wife and homemaker, Carole followed Jerry around the United States and Europe for his job, managing the household and raising the children while Jerry supported the family. Throughout their travels, Carole made great friends and created a warm, welcoming environment wherever they lived.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Carole's care providers, especially Vitas Hospice, for their exceptional support and comfort during her illness.

Carole's wishes were to be cremated, and a private service will be held in her memory.

Memorials are suggested to Vitas Hospice or Renee's Rescue Sanctuary and may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, Illinois 62062.
