Charlotte K. Digue, 88, of Troy, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
She was born on September 4, 1937, in Edwardsville, IL, the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (nee Davis) King.
Charlotte dedicated her career to working as an accountant and bookkeeper for the Civil Service. In her free time, Charlotte enjoyed researching her family's genealogy and was an exceptional baker. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Silver Creek Chapter in Highland, IL, and valued the organization's commitment to preserving history and honoring the nation's heritage.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Schmitt, and her two infant sisters, Joyce and Mary.
She is survived by her four children, Pam (Steve) Althardt of Canton, GA, Carol (Tony) Black of Troy, IL, Anne Digue of Troy, IL, and Joe (Laura Sinclaire) Digue of Walnut Creek, CA; six grandchildren: Greg (Jennifer) Althardt, Jennifer (Andrew) Jones, Ryan (Darina) Black, Eric Black, Kyle Black, and Alexis Digue; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Karen) King of Troy, IL; a sister, Marilyn (Jack) McCall of Highland, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at the funeral home officiated by Marilyn McCall. Burial will be in Summerfield Cemetery in Summerfield, IL.
Memorials are suggested to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) or the Siteman Cancer Center for breast cancer care. Memorials will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
