Cheryl Frances Cyrus, age 80 of Troy, IL, born on March 30, 1944, in Huntington, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Illinois.
Cheryl graduated from South High School in Columbus, Ohio, Class of 1962. She married U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Abraham Frederick Cyrus III on September 3, 1966, and he survives.
Cheryl worked in the banking industry in the trust department. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Collinsville, Illinois. Cheryl adored her family and friends. She was a jewelry "connoisseur" and loved to entertain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry William and Betty Frances (née Cyrus) Sowards.
Surviving is her husband, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Abraham Frederick Cyrus III; two daughters: Christie Danielle Cyrus and Michelle Leah Cyrus; three grandchildren: Ian Abraham Kingan, Madelynn Frances Kingan, and Mia Kathleen Rosenthal; a brother, Donald (Linda) Sowards; a nephew, Jeff (Loree Beth) Sowards; two nieces: Karen (Ron) Lohr and Susan Sowards; five great-nephews: Lincoln Sowards, Franklin Sowards, Jessie Tompkins, Ethan Sealock and Dylan Sealock; great-niece, Josie Tompkins; great-great niece, Skylar Sealock; special friends: Virginia Morgan, Ann Ecker, Courtney McIntyre, Tammy Perkins and Lindsey Sykes.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Jennifer Sowell.
Celebration of life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. also on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Buzzed Bee Bar and Grill 104 North Main Street, Troy, IL 62294.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville, Illinois, and will be received at the funeral home.
