Obituary

Daniel "Dan" Charles Owen, age 79 of Maryville, IL, born August 7, 1938 in East Liverpool, OH, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Cedarhurst of Collinsville.

One of Dan's greatest lifelong passions was riverboats. He grew up on the Ohio River, worked on towboats, and worked as an editor and photographer for The Waterways Journal, a riverboat trade magazine. He devoted his entire life to this passion and had amassed one of the world's largest collections of towboat photographs into a collection he called "The Babb's Island Boat Photo Museum." Many considered him an expert in all things towboat related. Dan was an Army veteran. He and his wife, Jeannette, enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV with a lot of great friends. He loved his family, especially being a grandpa. Dan was loved and will be greatly missed by his extended family of river and camping friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret nee Kevan Owen; his wife of 56 years, Jeannette nee Digby Owen; and a brother, Jeffrey Owen.

He is survived by two daughters: Dani (Marc Leek) Owen and Beth Owen both of Maryville, IL; two grandchildren: Kaia Cosgriff and Nicholas Leek; a sister, Margo (Harold) Adkins of OH; a brother, Robert (Carolyn) Owen of OH; beloved niece and nephews: Scott, Doug, Paige, Todd and Tim.
