Darlene "Carol" Geaschel, 85, of Keyesport, IL passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Evercare of Breese in Breese, IL.

She was born July 4, 1940, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to the late Rodney and Orlean Katherine (nee Braundmeier) Johnson.

Carol worked in retail sales throughout her life. She enjoyed many activities - cross-stitching, listening to music, dancing, gardening, camping, fishing and boating.  She and her husband especially enjoyed spending time together with friends at the American Legion and Bob's Tavern in Keyesport.  An annual event for many years was having a fish fry or barbecue at their home to celebrate her birthday on the Fourth of July.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lola Graham; and a grandson, Victor Alexander Chavez.

She is survived by her loving husband, Walter "Bud" J. Geaschel, whom she married November 27, 2002; five children: James (Gayla) Robertson, Kent Robertson, Theresa Chavez, Scott (Anita) Geaschel, and Vicki (Dale) Geaschel-Robert; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.

A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's Community Care, Collinsville Location, and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.  Please request that your donation support Collinsville Caregiver Courses and Caregiver Support Groups for families with members suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's.
