Obituary

Dave Alan Busch, age 74 of Highland, IL, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born April 29, 1949, in Highland, IL to the late Arthur and Lillian (Carter) Busch.

Davey was preceded in death by his brothers Darrell Busch, Duane Busch, and Dennis Busch, and his sister Donna Meyer, former sister-in-law Beverly Busch, and brother-in-law Kenny Meyer.

He is survived by his former wife of 21 years and best friend, Diane Busch, of Edwardsville, IL, his treasured sons Josh (Erin) of Highland, IL, and Jeff (Shannon) of Estero, FL, and his three precious grandchildren Landon, Brody, and Zoe.  He is also survived by his brother Delrae Busch of Maryville, IL, sister Diana Trent of O'jai, CA, brother Donnie (Tina) Busch of Livingston, IL, sister Denise (Aaron) Menne of Scottsdale, AZ, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother-in-law Dan Jurgena (Suzanne Hubbard) of Clear Lake Shores, Texas and sisters-in-law Liz Busch of Troy, IL,  and Nancy Busch of Worden, IL.

He graduated from the Edwardsville High School class of 1967.

Davey had a career in the tractor-trailer business for many years, serving as a Journeyman Mechanic, Parts Manager, and Outside Sales Representative for XTRA, Incorporated and Intermodal.  He was also employed in Joshua's landscaping company, New Horizon Landscaping, after he retired. He treasured the years they were able to work together, father and son.

Davey enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with family and friends who shared his passion.  His greatest wish was to pass these interests to his sons and grandsons so he could spend quality time with them. He hunted wild game all over the United States and Canada and had many stories to tell.  His time in the woods with nature was spiritual.

He was a gifted athlete. He played many sports, including football and softball.  He pitched seven no-hitters and was in much demand on teams in the area.  Following a ruptured disc in 1984, thinking he would never pitch again, he returned to pitch the best season the State Farm team had in twenty years, winning him the MVP for the Edwardsville City League.

He was passionate about St Louis Blues Hockey and watching his sons and grandsons play sports.  He enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards with his family.  Davey was known for his sense of humor and always had a new joke to tell.  "Pops" was known as the "Legend" to his family.

Davey departed this world surrounded by love, at peace with everyone, and ready to spend eternity with his creator. His faith was strong.
