David Gene Jurgena, age 64 of Edwardsville, IL, born November 5, 1952 in Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Collinsville Nursing and Rehab in Collinsville, IL.

David was a 1970 Edwardsville High School graduate then attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He worked for 28 years as a metallurgist for a local company. David was a freelance artist and sculptor, and won many awards for his work. He was a talented craftsman in technology, electrical, and woodworking. A true animal lover, he rescued pets. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, IL.

He is survived by a son, John Jurgena; his mother, Corinne Rae Grah of Perryville, MO; a brother, Daniel (Suzanne) Jurgena of Clear Lake Shores, TX; a sister, Diane Busch of Edwardsville, IL; brother-in-law, Dave Busch of Highland, IL; two nephews: Joshua (Erin) Busch of Highland, ILand Jeff (Shannon) Busch of Heath, TX; two great nephews: Landon and Brody; and a great niece, Zoe.

Visitation will be from 1pm to 3pm on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 3pm following the visitation with Rev. Gary Galen officiating. Burial will be in Bartlett Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri and will be received at the funeral home.
