David Francis McCameron, age 75, of Glen Carbon, IL, born February 28, 1947 in Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
David grew up with his family in Collinsville, IL and was a 1965 graduate of Collinsville High School. He traveled to watch the Kahoks take the state basketball championship that year. He was also a big fan of the Indianapolis 500 and attended the Memorial Day race for many years. Formula 1 racing became his collector hobby. In mid-life he took up golf and enjoyed the camaraderie of that sport. Dave was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa while attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He graduated and entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Seattle, WA. Upon discharge, he settled in the Chicago area and formed McCameron Enterprises, a business that made creative corrugated packaging containers, and was the owner-operator for over 30 years. He returned to Collinsville to help care for his mother and enjoyed his home on Northcrest before moving to Meridian Village in 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Francis and Dolores J. (Cushing) McCameron; and a brother, Steven Thomas McCameron.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Joseph) Howe; a sister, Kathy Gibbard of Carbondale, CO; and a nephew, Evan Gibbard of Lake Mills, WI.
Visitation will be 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday October 8, 2022 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., immediately following the visitation, on Saturday, October 8, with Father John Beveridge, celebrant. Burial will be in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
Memorials are suggested to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
