David Thomas
Scovitch
Mar 27, 1973 — Sep 1, 2024
St. Louis
David Thomas Scovitch, age 51 of St. Louis, MO, born March 27, 1973 in Belleville, IL, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024.
David graduated from Triad High School, Class of 1991. He attended Truman State University and graduated from the University of Missouri, St. Louis attaining a BA in History in 1999. He was a proud member of the Laborer's Local 110 in St. Louis for 17 years, and in his younger years of Local 100.
David was a kind and gentle giant. He gave great hugs. He enjoyed exploring St. Louis. He loved history -- a love that was cultivated by the talented history teachers at Triad High School. His college thesis focused on the 1917 Race Riots in East St. Louis. He was particularly curious about World War II and Asian art and cultures. His house was frequently filled with the music of Miles Davis...The Animals...The Doors... and many other alternative rock bands...and after a good day at work Mr. Blue Sky (by ELO) - was turned all the way up.
David loved children and animals, his kindness radiated in their presence. He was the uncle who served as the "human jungle gym" for his nieces and nephews. On family trips to the City Museum, he was the only adult up with the kids, traversing the exterior climbing structure and the underground caverns in his 6' 2" frame.
Even with his varied interests, his favorite pastime was any time with his son, Oliver. The two of them were "thick as thieves," as they say. Riding bikes, swimming, playing catch, Legos, fierce Nerf gun battles or hanging on the couch watching movies or games...his most meaning-filled and love-filled moments were those spent with his son. His happiest days were with Oliver.
As an uncle, cousin, and friend, he was loved by many -- he is missed. May his memory be a blessing.
He is survived by his son, Oliver Scovitch; his mother, Margaret (nee O'Brien) Scovitch; one brother, Gregory (Kathleen) Scovitch; three sisters: Elizabeth Berman (Eric), Catherine Roman (Carlos), and Jennifer Ruhl (Ryan); 12 nieces and nephews; his aunt, Carol Muzzarelli; and his Uncle, Algren. He is predeceased by his father Thomas C. Scovitch; his uncle, Ray Muzzarelli and his aunt, Joanne Anderson.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Barry Wilson Funeral Home; 2800 N. Center Street; Maryville, IL 62062.
Memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
