Delores Lorraine Stephens (nee Harrison) , age 91, of Maryville, IL, born February 18, 1931 in Collinsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Delores attended public school in Collinsville and was a 1949 graduate of Collinsville Township High School. She lived in Collinsville and Maryville her entire life. Mrs. Stephens was a homemaker for her husband and family of four children and worked for more than 30 years for the Collinsville Township Office. Delores was an active member of the Auxiliary to Anderson Hospital (Maryville) where she volunteered in the hospital, almost weekly, for over 50 years. She was a prolific and generous knitter/crocheter and, over the years, produced copious quantities of sweaters, afghans, shawls, scarves, and beanies.
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Stephens, whom she married on July 2, 1949; her parents, Charles and Laura (nee Burgassi) Harrison; and her only sibling, a brother, David Harrison.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Robert) Young of Sandy Springs, GA; three sons: Jeff Stephens of Lynnwood, WA, Tommy (Melanie) Stephens of Maryville, IL, and Timothy (Dolly) Stephens of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren: Elizabeth (Michael) Thompson, Erica Stephens (Willie Taylor), Grace Stephens, Mateo Stephens, Joey Stephens, and Aimee Stephens; two great-grandchildren: Brently Stephens and Luella Thompson.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 307 West Clay St., Collinsville. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Collinsville.
Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ (Collinsville) and to the Auxiliary at Anderson Hospital (Maryville) and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
