Dennis W. Johnson, Sr.

Dennis W. Johnson, Sr., age 79, of Troy, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Charter Senior Living in Troy, IL.

Dennis was born on June 24, 1947 to Donald H. Johnson and Vivian (nee Doolin) Johnson. He was a 1965 graduate of Collinsville High School and was a retired salesman in the tractor trailer industry after 47 years. He coached American Legion baseball for 18 years, coached recreational baseball, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed traveling. His life was committed to the Lord Jesus Christ and he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he taught a Bible Study class.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy J. Johnson, and his son-in-law, Lonnie Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Linda (nee Claus) Johnson, whom he married on May 28, 2017 in Bryson City, NC; his daughter, Linda (Darren) Kerrins of Fairbury, IL; son, Dennis W. Johnson, Jr. of Winfield, MO; daughter, Denise Smith of Maryville, IL; daughter, Dena (Kevin) Huges of Golcanda, IL; son, Derek (Aimee) Johnson, of Troy, IL; 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild; a brother, David “Curt” Johnisee of Carlinville, IL; and a sister, Linda (Joel) Oyer of Tyler, TX.

Visitation will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.

A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 3 p.m., officiated by Deacon Greg Gomez.
