Obituary

Diana "Di" Lynn McMahan, 72, of Maryville, IL, passed away at her residence on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Born July 21, 1953, in Alton, IL, Di was a 1971 graduate of Edwardsville High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Her love for teaching and nurturing young minds led her to serve as the director of the former Little Lambs Preschool in Maryville for 25 years. She touched the lives of countless children and families. She was currently employed as Youth Services Coordinator at the Maryville Community Library where she continued to work with the children she loved so much.

Di was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville.  Di also gave her time to her community as a past member of the PTA at Maryville Elementary. She loved reading, crocheting, and shopping, but above all, she cherished time spent with her family. Di was a big kid at heart and her love of all things chicken was unmatched.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James McMahan, whom she married on June 30, 1972, and who passed away on October 16, 2011; her father, James "Jim" Earl Fravell; and her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Bill Bates.

Di is survived by her loving son, James "Jim" (Stacy) McMahan, Jr.; her mother, Shirley (nee King) Ehrat; her brother, Mickey (Deb) Fravell; two sisters, Kim (Earl) Keller and Gale (Steve) Stahlhut; and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
