Obituary

Doris K. Nelson, age 98 of Maryville, IL, born on January 2, 1926, in Belleville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at St. Paul's Senior Community in Belleville.

Doris was a 1944 graduate of Belleville High School. She worked in civil services until she had her children where she then became a homemaker. Doris was an artist and worked with oils and water coloring painting landscapes. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Joseph Nelson, whom she married October 31, 1947. Her competitive nature showed while playing games, especially cards, with family and friends. She had an immense joy for life and loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded by her husband; parents: John William and Anita (nee Weilmuenster) Ryan; and great-grandson, Maxton Lee Beeker.

Doris is survived by her son, Mark (Jean) Nelson of Collinsville, Il; daughter, Susan (Gary) Harbin of Mobile, AL; two grandchildren: Laura (Tristan) Beeker, and Ryan (Sara Sapp) Nelson; two great-grandchildren: Raygen Lovett, and Izzak Lovett; and a beloved niece, Juanita Mohrmann

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, from 10am – 12pm at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL, with a service following at 12 noon with Sue Busler officiating.

The burial will take place at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville, IL, following services.

Memorials are suggested to Worden United Methodist Church and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
