Doris L. Sexton

Doris Lillian Sexton, 98, of Collinsville, IL, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, IL.

Doris was born November 7, 1927, in Mulkeytown, IL, to the late Charles and Anna (nee Harrison) Simpkins. She was a 1945 graduate of Mulkeytown High School. Throughout her working years, Doris was employed by Tri City Grocery Store, Montgomery Ward, and Dairy Queen. She greatly enjoyed her years as a “Sample Lady” at the local Schnucks grocery store.

Doris wasn’t afraid of hard work. She enjoyed embroidering, quilting, sewing, and working in the garden. She especially enjoyed cruising and traveling with Donald. They would spend many weeks in the winter enjoying the beautiful white sandy beach of Destin, Florida.

She cherished the time spent with her family and the many memories made throughout her life. She was Christian from a very young age and an active member at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Maryville until she was confined to a wheelchair. She traveled and worked on Christian mission trips to the American Southwest Indian Territory, Kentucky, Bogota, Columbia in Central America, and locally. When the much respected Billy Graham came to St. Louis, she sang in his choir.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald O. Sexton, whom she married on September 4, 1948, and her sister, June Parsons.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna Sexton-Jones of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Laurie Sexton-Juenger of Collinsville, IL; four grandchildren, Marc Jones, David Jones, Myra Juenger, and Kaila Juenger; and one great-grandson, Mason Jones.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Maryville for a planned memorial garden.

A celebration of life will be announced soon
