Doris Spanholtz

Doris Lois Spanholtz, age 98, of Edwardsville, formerly of Maryville, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2026 at Evercare Care Center in Lebanon, IL.

Doris was born in St. Charles, MO on December 25, 1927 to Vincent and Saloma (nee Loeffler) Dennigmann. After graduating high school, she was employed as a secretary for the Monsanto Chemical Company in Sauget, IL, and after retirement she worked for numerous staffing agencies. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Sunrise Kiwanis Club, the Las Vegas Ladies bowling league and other bowling leagues and golf leagues.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Spanholtz, who she married on August 27, 1976; her former husband, Virgil R. Younger, Jr.; a son, Daniel Vincent Younger; two daughters: Carol Jean Haase and Julia Kay Younger; two brothers: Vincent H. Denningmann and Donald Dennigmann; and a sister, Margie Kelly.

She is survived by her daughters:, Patricia Lee (Gerry) Hinton of Vancouver, Canada, Jo Lynn (Kevin) Younger Robinson of Collinsville, IL, and Marsha Ann (Wayne) Demetrulias of Dupo, IL; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; multiple step-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL, and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL.

A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation on Thursday morning, beginning at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dale Skeesick officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church Youth, or to the Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis and will be accepted at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
