Dorothy Agnes Garner, age 87, passed away on October 29, 2022 at 2:03 a.m. at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
She was born on January 18, 1935 in Collinsville, IL to the late Arthur Frischman and Agnes (nee Dickshot) Schettler.
Dorothy was very proud of her Lithuanian heritage and was baptized at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Collinsville where she attended as a child. Dorothy was a lifelong member of North St Louis Turners, American Turners Association. She loved sports, especially volleyball, tennis, softball, and the St Louis Cardinal Baseball team. Dorothy was a proud homemaker for most of her early adult life, then became a secretary for the State of Missouri where she retired. The family called her the activities director as she frequently organized activities and kept snacks and sports equipment in the trunk of her car for when the opportunity arose.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Donald Frischman; and a son-in-law, Thomas Gunning.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Barry Smith) of Glen Carbon, IL and Donna Gunning of Florissant, MO; five grandchildren, Erin (Jeremy) Lee, Todd (Katie) Gunning, Janna (Andy) Kammermeyer, Allie (Joe) Rehagen, Kyle (Brian Garrison) Gunning; nine great-grandchildren, Auggie, Landon, Ryder, Eloise, Leo, Caroline, Brooke, Riley, and Dylan; one brother, Eddie (Pam) Schettler of St. Louis, MO; and a sister Patricia LaVista of St. Louis, MO.
A private service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Collinsville, IL along with a private burial in St John's Cemetery, Collinsville, IL. Following the services, a gathering of family and friends will be held at Ferguson Brewing, 418 S Florissant Rd, Ferguson, MO 63135 from 5 to 7pm to celebrate and remember Dorothy's life.
Memorials may be to Jerusalem Lutheran Church or Missouri History Museum and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
