Dorothy Jane Koopman, 90, of Collinsville, IL, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, IL.
She was born September 25, 1935, in Nameoki Township, the daughter of the late Raymond and Lydia (nee Gerlach) Herschbach. Dorothy married Paul G. Koopman on January 14, 1956, in Chester, IL, and they shared 70 years of marriage together.
When her children were young, Dorothy devoted her time to being a homemaker. She later worked as an executive assistant for the federal government. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters and friends. Dorothy loved traveling and camping with her husband, together they had visited every state, including Hawaii, as well as Europe, and took numerous cruise ship voyages. She loved tending to her colorful flower and vegetable gardens. She was an avid card player, belonging to several card clubs. And most of all spending time with all of her friends and family.
She was a faithful member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Karwick, Frances Wegener, and Donna Grimm; a brother, David Herschbach; and an infant brother, Donald Herschbach.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul G Koopman; three children, Paul "Dean" (Robi) Koopman, Betty (Tom) Kidwell, and Terry Koopman; five grandchildren, Dwayne A. Koopman, Garrett Stahl, Jason Stahl, Paul E. (Courtney) Koopman, and Brittany Koopman; four great-grandchildren, Marcus, Xavier, Adaline, and Coraline
Survivors also include four brothers, Raymond (Carole) Herschbach, Daniel (Barbara) Herschbach, Albert Herschbach, and Richard (June) Herschbach; three sisters, Jean (Cleve) Jany, Margie Becker, and Thelma Herschbach; brother-in-law, Marvin Wegener; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is deeply loved, and missed by all who knew her. She will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dale Skeesick officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
