Elizabeth "Betty" Grace Hess, age 87 of Springfield, IL, formerly of Collinsville, IL, passed away January 10, 2023 at Concordia Village.

Betty was born on June 5, 1935 in Collinsville to the late Carl B. and Grace (nee Willoughby) Schultze.  She married Robert "Bob" Emmett Hess on December 28, 1958.  He preceded her in death.

In her earlier years, she had worked at Ameren doing clerical duties and then was a homemaker.  She was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and enjoyed toll painting, crafting and traveling.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Mary Lou Schultze; and a sister, Barbara Burstadt.

Surviving are her three sons, Brian Hess of Aubrey, TX, Boyd (Diane) Hess of Athens, IL and Brad Hess of Irvine, CA; three grandchildren, Matt (Courtney) Hess, Nathaniel Hess, and Taylor (Shane) Rogers; one great-grandchild, Riley Grace; nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL, followed by a service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kyle Wright and Rev. Dale Skeesick officiating.

Private burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL on Monday, January 16, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and will be received at the visitation or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center St., Maryville, IL 62062.
