Obituary

Ellen Carey nee Rielley Shasteen, age 69 of Collinsville, IL, born December 11, 1950 in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Ellen retired from the Federal Reserve Bank as a statistical clerk after 34 years of service, and previously worked as a teacher.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL.  She enjoyed collecting Belleek and Waterford items, loved to read, and travel with her husband, Larry.  She was a very caring wife and mother, and especially loved to be with her grandchildren.  She always expressed the importance of education to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Catherine nee Smith Rielley.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Larry Shasteen, whom she married October 18, 1980; two children:  Gregory Shasteen of Collinsville, IL and Catherine "Katie" Shasteen of Tokyo, Japan; two grandchildren:  Camila and Liam; three sisters:  Deborah Rielley of Webster Groves, MO, Jane (Vincent) Deiters of Sappington, MO and Ann Rielley of St. Louis, MO; in-laws:  Dennis Shasteen of Collinsville, IL and Gary (Nina) Shasteen of Caseyville, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1300 Belt Line, Collinsville, IL with Rev. Michael Walther officiating. Due to the current restrictions, friends may attend by listening to the funeral service in their vehicle in the parking lot of the church by tuning into Channel 88.3 FM radio or will be streamed through the Good Shepherd Collinsville Group Facebook page.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.

Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or School, or the American Cancer Society.   Please make your check payable to the organization of your choice and mail to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
