Evelyn Frances Armes, 73, of Troy, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O'Fallon, IL.
Born on February 7, 1952, in Bardwell, KY, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Millard "Ed" and Betty (nee Baker) Deweese. She dedicated 35 years of her professional life to the insurance industry, working in the Claims Department and retiring from State Farm Insurance.
A devoted member of the Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ for over 50 years, Evelyn lived her faith daily through acts of kindness, especially by visiting the sick and comforting others. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, card making, and the simple joy of serving others with love and compassion.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Stopher, and her son-in-law, Brian Jones.
She is survived by her husband, Connie Armes, whom she married on April 4, 2020; her children, Rebecca Jones of Highland, IL, and David (Gina) Stopher of Troy, IL; and Connie's children, Karen (Dale) Mollet of Troy, IL, and Kevin (Diana) Armes of Lockhart, TX.
Evelyn's legacy lives on in her 11 cherished grandchildren: Sutton (Laila Alvarado) Allen, Summer (Austin) Rittenhouse, Sullivan Allen, Sutherland Allen, Troy Stopher, Gage Stopher, Maya Stopher, Nathan (Casey) Armes, Bradan Armes, Adam (Megan) Mollet, and Sara (Tim) Duncan; and her seven great-grandchildren: August, Levi, Logan, Briley, Grayson, Addelynn, and Aiden.
She is also survived by her siblings: Wesley (Judy) Deweese of Troy, IL; Leann Deweese of Highland, IL; and Bobbye (David) Wieman of Nashville, TN; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ, 1400 Troy Road, Collinsville, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Renn Ferguson. Evelyn will be laid to rest at a later date with her first husband, Richard, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Potter Children's Home and will be received at the visitation or mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL. If floral tributes are preferred, the family suggests arrangements be ordered through Greenhouse Florist in Highland, IL.
