Floyd Arnold Langenwalter, age 98 of Collinsville, IL, born September 11, 1923 in Black Jack, south of Troy, IL, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
Floyd was a 1941 graduate of McCray Dewey High School. Prior to his passing, he was the oldest surviving graduate of McCray Dewey. He worked as a meat inspector for the Department of Agriculture for 35 years before retiring. Floyd proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville where he held numerous leadership positions, including President of the Church Council, the Masonic Lodge #712 in Collinsville, Scottish Rites, and he was a Shriner. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, refinishing furniture, and loved traveling with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Oradell ( nee Dettmar ) Langenwalter; two brothers: Milton and Dale Langenwalter; and two sisters: Carol Howerton and Shirley Crossman.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Ann (nee Schermann) Langenwalter, whom he married May 15, 1949; two daughters: Janet (Mitch) Boyce of Marine, IL and Jane (Bob) Sudhoff of Highland, IL: four grandchildren: Beth (Scott) Heffren, Brian (Ashley) Boyce, Amy (Brian) Stoff and Christopher Sudhoff; six great-grandchildren: Riley and Reid Heffren, Erica and Morgan Boyce, Sawyer and Lily Stoff; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL. Due to current state restrictions, masks are required to be worn.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Phil Kershner officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, Disabled American Veterans or St. John United Church of Christ and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
