Frank J. Skrha, 87 of Collinsville, IL, born July 26, 1937, in East St. Louis, IL, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at his residence with his wife by his side.
He was a devoted member of Meadow Heights Baptist Church and a past member of Winstanley Baptist Church in Fairview Heights, IL and Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis, MO, where he served faithfully as the nursery coordinator. A man of great compassion, he and his family opened their home as foster parents to 33 children over the years, offering love and stability to those in need. He had a deep love for fishing, traveling, and St. Louis Browns/Cardinals baseball. He also enjoyed eating out and had a sense of adventure when it came to trying new foods. His life was marked by service, generosity, and a genuine joy in sharing simple pleasures with others.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Verna (nee Marks) Skrha; son, Michael Skrha; daughter, Diedra Skrha; and three grandchildren: Dale, Adam, and Jacob.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Mary Elizabeth (nee Francies) Skrha, whom he married April 15, 1978; two sons: Ronald G. (Vivian) Skrha of Troy, OH, and Paul G. (Jeanene) Skrha of Mr. Pleasant, TN; two daughters: Margaret (David Carlson) Skrha of Imperial, MO, and Geralyn (Dale) McCain of Caseyville, IL; one stepson, Mark D. Major of Abu Dhabi; seven grandchildren: Kristie, Tricia, Jennifer, Daniel, Emily, Amber, and Joseph; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10am to 12pm at Meadow Heights Baptist Church located at 1498 Vandalia Street, Collinsville, IL 62234.
A memorial service will follow at 12pm.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery at 5200 Lucas and Hunt Road (at Highway 70), St. Louis, MO 63121.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Meadow Heights Baptist Church and will be received at the visitation, or may be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
