Frederick J. Phelps Jr., 75, of Chesterfield, MO, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on August 23, 1950, in Bonne Terre, MO to the late Frederick J. Sr. and Betty (nee Leschen) Phelps. Fred was self-employed in the pest control and auto sales industries. He loved dogs and adopted many over the years. Fred enjoyed driving and engaging in conversation with anyone at any time. His greatest traits were his optimism, persistence and loyalty, especially to his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Barron, and his grandson, Evan.

Fred is survived by his three children, Frederick (Jay) J. Phelps III, Clint (Becky) Phelps, and Lindsey (Marc) Clemente; 11 grandchildren, Steven, Alison, Jack, Ryan, Nate, Ethan, Asher, Alexander, Isabella, Valentina, and Domenico; and his sister, Betsy Jarvis.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Glen Carbon, IL, officiated by Rev. Andrew Packer.

Memorials may be made in Fred’s honor to the Metro East Humane Society and will be received at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
