Gary L.
Finke
Mar 25, 1947 — May 2, 2025
Glen Carbon
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary L Finke, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and proud veteran, who left this world peacefully on May 2, 2025 at the age of 78 at his residence in Glen Carbon, IL.
Born on March 25th 1947, in Alton, IL, Gary lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love. He served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he embodied duty and integrity, earning the respect of his fellow airmen and his country. Gary retired from the United States Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant after 25 years of honorably serving. He then worked in maintenance for the Tri City Regional Port (Melvin Price Lock and Damn) in Granite City IL, retiring in Edwardsville, IL. His commitment to the values of service continued long after his military career, as he became a pillar of his community — always ready to lend a hand, offer advice, or share a kind word.
Gary was the devoted husband to Nenita (nee Abress) Finke. They married September 16, 1969, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. He was a proud father to Dawn Finke, a steadfast brother whose loyalty and warmth was ever present, a cherished grandfather to Dillon and Cody Soliben, and a dedicated great-grandfather to Austin, Caleb, and Maci Soliben.
Those who know Gary will remember his generosity, his quiet strength, and his ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether he was sharing stories from his service days, offering guidance, or simply being present with those he loved, Gary made a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Delores (Nee Dieckhaus) Finke, brother-in-law Anthony Damiano, and one great-grandson, Austin Gary Soliben.
Gary's legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the community he helped shape. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
He is survived by his loving wife Nenita (Nee Abress) Finke; a beloved daughter, Dawn Finke; two grandsons: Dillon and Cody Soliben, two great-grandchildren: Caleb and Maci, two sisters: Jacki (Mike) Regna and Kim Damiano.
