Gary Lloyd Langley, age 85 of Collinsville, IL, born March 1, 1939 in Stafford, KS, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Liberty Village in Maryville surrounded by his loving family.
Gary earned his bachelor's degree from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, where he was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Over the course of his career, he worked as a coach and teacher, worked for The Kroger Company, and Schnucks Market where he retired as a division manager after 25 years of service. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, enjoyed fishing trips to Canada with his friends, and going on cruises. He was an avid basketball fan following both the Kansas Jayhawks and Collinsville Kahoks, and helped start the Collinsville Schnucks Holiday Basketball Tournament. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children and grandchildren's sports and activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Beulah (nee Schecter) Langley; and a brother, Lanny Langley.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Karen (nee Eckart) Langley, whom he married January 6, 1962; three children: Shelley (Mark)) Campbell of Kirkwood, MO, Christopher (Michelle) Langley of Maryville, IL and Melissa Gildersleeve of Collinsville, IL; seven grandchildren: Anthony (Aubree) Campbell, Matthew Langley, Kristen (Alex) Koch, Megan (Nathan) Stock, Brett Langley, Emma Langley and Cole Gildersleeve; seven great-grandchildren: Cruz Campbell, Vella Campbell, Colt Campbell, Lucas Koch, Livia Koch, Nora Stock and Roman Stock; a sister, Shirley West of Winfield, KS; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 304 South Street, Collinsville, IL 62234.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Kyle Wright and Rev. Larry Eckart. Burial will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Collinsville.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or School and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
