Obituary

Gavin Lee Schindler, 21, of Glen Carbon, began his eternal rest with our Lord early Friday morning, August 30th. Gavin was born July 15th, 2003, to his loving parents, Eric and Kristen Frisbee Schindler.

Gavin was a gentle, kind, generous and loving soul who routinely did good deeds for others without fanfare or desire for recognition, whether it was shoveling snow for an ailing neighbor or taking a homeless man to lunch. Gavin worked hard to overcome numerous challenges that would have stymied many other people and attained Eagle Scout rank in The Boy Scouts of America, a feat accomplished by only 6% of all scouts. He graduated Glenwood Academy in 2021 and earned multiple welding certificates from Lewis and Clark Community College in 2022. Gavin loved children, country music, Hawaiian shirts, fishing and sporty cars, especially his red Camaro, which he proudly drove to victory when he competed at the racetrack. He was an active member of The Bridge Church in Glen Carbon and volunteered for a work mission to Alaska in 2023, where he spent many long days repairing a rural church. He loved his time in Alaska (he hated hot weather) and his only regret was not catching a salmon while he was there. Gavin was a quiet and thoughtful person who listened much more than he talked, but he could come out with a real "zinger" comment when least expected. Gavin was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Gavin is survived by his brother, Logan Schindler; sister, Ava Schindler; bonus sister Dunya Mikhayel; bonus brother Ethan Jackson; maternal great-grandmother Anna Kelly; maternal grandparents Karen and Jerry Frisbee; paternal grandparents Judith and Richard Schindler; uncles Aaron and Ryan Schindler; uncle Nathan Frisbee and aunt Catina Frisbee; cousins Carter and Madeline Frisbee, Kristen Fish, Destiney Lackey, Emily Schindler, Rylee Schindler and Blake Schindler; bonus nephew Khalil Baltajan and many other uncles, aunts and cousins who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his cousin Derrick Schindler.

A celebration of Gavin's life will be held 2 pm Friday, September 6th, at Eden Church, 903 North 2nd Street in Edwardsville. Anyone who wishes to attend the ceremony is welcome and Hawaiian shirts are authorized attire.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gavin's church family at The Bridge Church and will be received at the service or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
