George James Haas, 91 of Collinsville, IL, formerly of Bloomington, IN, born January 22, 1934, in Pocahontas, IL, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Jim graduated from Pocahontas High School and achieved both his Bachelor and Master degree's in Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He retired from Indiana University where he worked as the associate director of foreign student admissions. Over his tenure, he traveled to multiple universities around the world and won several awards.
He enjoyed bowling, bird watching, dog walking, and reading. His sense of humor was constant, along with his 1950s crew cut, knack for writing witty poems and the immense love for his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Cora (nee Fenton) Haas; brother, Mike Haas Sr.; nephew, Mike Haas, Jr.; and niece, Lori Pearson.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Judith Ann (nee Smiddy) Haas, whom he married September 5, 1959; son, Bruce (Debbie) Haas; daughter, Beth (Jim) Taylor; two grandchildren: Katie (Stephen) Casey and Maddie Taylor (Paul Cacioppo); two great-grandchildren: Camilla and Colette Casey; and a nephew, Christopher (Kim) Haas.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2025 at Robinson Cemetery in Pocahontas, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital and will be received at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
