Georgette Marie Skelton, age 84 of Collinsville, IL, born May 27, 1936 in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
Georgette was a 1954 Collinsville High School graduate. She was an instrumental volunteer in the development and building of Anderson Hospital. She retired from the Medical Records Department, and was an Auxiliary Volunteer. Georgette loved her community. She had a heart of gold and was always thinking of others. She and her husband, Chuck, were willing volunteers installing Life Lines Alert Systems for the elderly in their homes, and volunteering at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, MO. She was a volunteer dispatcher for the Collinsville Shuttle, and the local Friday fish fry. She was a member of two red hat groups, and Parents Without Partners. She was a talented embroider having embroidered 279 quilts for Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Fairmont for bingo prizes. She made crochet lap blankets and donated to senior living facilities.
She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville having attended grade school there. In the early '70's she taught PSR at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville, IL. She enjoyed going to the Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville, playing bingo, attending class reunions, working out, and having lunch with her friends. She was a strong woman who overcame many health issues. She loved her life and lived it to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" R. Skelton, whom she married December 18, 1954; a son, Brian Skelton; and parents, August "Buster" and Alice (nee Dallape) Maderich.
She is survived by a daughter, Dani (Wayne) Skelton-Reeves of The Woodlands, TX; two sisters: Susan (Scott) Reynolds of Wildwood, MO and Sandy (Bob Wood) Harris of Collinsville, IL; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rich (Joyce) Skelton of Collinsville, IL, and brother-in-law David Skelton of Webster Groves, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. following the visitation at the funeral home with Father John Beveridge and Rev. Jim Donahue officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Anderson Hospital Auxiliary and will be received at the funeral home.
