Gerald J.
Froess
Aug 2, 1935 — Jul 17, 2023
Collinsville
Gerald J. Froess, an 87-year-old resident of Collinsville, IL, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, with his daughter Patricia by his side, holding his hand.
Gerald, affectionately known as Jerry, Jer, Jer Bear, Hon, Grandpa, Crappa and Dad, was born on August 2, 1935, in Erie, PA. On December 18, 1954, he married the love of his life Nancy Sue, and their serendipitous encounter took place at a grocery store named Loblaws, where they both worked. Gerald dedicated his career to the U.S. Air Force, serving with honor until his retirement, while his wife was a devoted military spouse. Together, they embraced the joys of life, dancing, laughing, and raising their five children. During their retirement years, they divided their time between Collinsville, IL, during warmer months, and Florida during the colder ones. Their shared love for exploration led them to various destinations worldwide, with Prague holding a special place in Gerald's heart. Whatever the adventure, Gerald cherished every moment as long as he had his beloved wife by his side.
Beyond his devotion to family, Gerald was a talented artist and cultivated many other hobbies. He showcased his talents in variety shows, with his memorable portrayal of Elvis becoming his claim to fame. He also found immense joy in recording and listening to music, as well as dancing. One of his remarkable feats was alphabetizing an entire CD collection! He generously assisted his children with a wide range of home projects, from tackling drywall to creating captivating yard art. Gerald embraced life to the fullest, and while his absence leaves a void in our hearts, the treasured memories we shared as a family are plentiful.
Gerald was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Nancy Sue, and their infant daughter, Karen.
He is survived by his five children: Kathianne and her husband Greg, Susan and her husband Nick, Patricia, Jenny and her husband Bruce, and Mike and his wife Amy. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and seven siblings: Dorothy, Dave, John, Carol, Jean, Jo, and Bea. Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service to honor Gerald's life will take place at Barry Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, July 21st, followed by a burial with Military Honors at Jefferson Barracks.
