Obituary

Herman J. Wenos, age 81 of Collinsville, IL, born December 9, 1938 in St. Paul, MN, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Herman was a retired pawnbroker having owned Herman's Pawn Shop in Collinsville, IL for 49 years.  He was an active member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church and was a Pro-Life activist.  He was a member of the Collinsville Knights of Columbus #1712.  He loved music and was an accomplished professional saxophonist, who played with many outstanding local and national artists.  Herman was very generous, witty, liked cars, and loved spending time with family and friends.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Elsie nee Opitz Wenos; and his first wife, Mary nee McNulty Wenos.

His is survived by his wife, Madeleine Fiudo-Wenos, whom he married October 25, 2015; three sons, Steven (Jayne) Wenos of Webster Groves, MO, Michael (Lisa) Wenos of Maryville, IL and Christopher (Michele) Wenos of Maryville, IL; two daughters, Laurie Buente of Collinsville, IL and Carrie Wenos of Kirkwood, MO; 15 grandchildren, Sean (Morgan), Taylor (Shane), Collin (Rashell), Aaron (Carrie), Lindsay, Tyler, Justin, Marissa, Amber, Andrew, Paige, Caden, Tucker, Sabian and Jonah; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey; two sisters, Marline (Gus) Wruck of Canada and Nancy (John) Wruck of Minneapolis, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL and 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 207 Vandalia, Collinsville, IL.  Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing guidelines will be adhered to and face masks are required.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday with Father John Beveridge celebrant.  Burial will be in SS Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Collinsville.

Memorials may be made in Herman's honor to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, ABL Pregnancy Center or St. Vincent DePaul and will be accepted at the funeral home.
