James D. Stack, 91, of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

He was born September 24, 1934, in St. Louis, MO, to the late James B. and Annabelle (nee Steffen) Stack. James retired from General Motors after more than 35 years of service as an automobile painter. He also honorably served in the United States Army. After retirement from General Motors, James spent time doing a few other jobs, including working for the Collinsville Township. He was always busy and took great pride in his house, yard, and car. He loved his family more than anything and was so proud of everyone's accomplishments.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Lillian H. (nee McWhorter) Stack, whom he married on February 27, 1954. Lillian passed away on February 17, 2026. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kimberly Anne Stack.

James is survived by his three sons, Gerald (Carole) Stack of Collinsville, IL; James (Donna) Stack of Alhambra, IL; and John (Sandy) Stack of Collinsville, IL; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Garret) Daiber, Chrissy (Caleb) Caudle, Jacob (Bailey) Stack, Kaitlin (Roger) Nelson, Thomas Stack, and Robert (Wendi) Stack; ten great-grandchildren, Kimberly Nelson, Brantley Stack, Colton Caudle, Ella Nelson, Grace Daiber, Jace Stack, Cole Stack, Cooper Nelson, Cody Caudle, and Gunnar Daiber; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Rev. Mark Maynard. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
