Janet Ann (nee Dieu) Slater, age 74 of Collinsville, IL, born May 29, 1948 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at her residence surrounded by family.
She was a Collinsville High School graduate, Class of 1966, and National Honor Society member. A member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville, sang in the church choir, and at one time oversaw the puppet ministry. She was a huge fan of University of Illinois basketball and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Janet always put her family first, enjoyed playing video games with her grandchildren, and was an excellent pie maker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Lois (nee Biggins) Dieu; her sister, Kathleen Nell Dieu; and a brother, William Dieu.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 54 years, Jeffrey C. Slater, whom she married May 19, 1968; two beloved children, Joseph (Jamie) Slater of Louisville, KY and Amy (Paul) Rydgig of Maryville, IL; seven grandchildren: Niles (Devyn) Smith, Carter Hasamear, Jonah Hasamear, Ella Rydgig, Jack Slater, Lucy Slater, and Koralyn Slater; a great-grandson, Kylan Smith; and her fur baby, "Buddy" the cat.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
A funeral service will follow at 12 noon with Dr. Bill Patterson officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Collinsville: Missions and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
