Jerry W. Church, age 84 of Maryville, IL, born February 10, 1939 in Decatur, IL, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at River Crossing of Edwardsville.

He was a graduate from Taylorville High School – Class of 1957, and Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, MO in 1963, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. Jerry was a professional engineer in Missouri and Illinois, earning the Engineer of the Year Award in 1981 in District 8 and in 1998 he retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation.  He was a life member of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) and IL Association of Highway Engineers.

Jerry was active in the community.  He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Collinsville Kiwanis Club – distinguished past President, Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis Club – distinguished past President, and Maryville Parks and Recreation Committee.  He enjoyed golfing, photography, and model trains.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harold W. and Helen Lois (nee Peek) Church, a brother-in-law, Herbert Echelberger and a niece Julia.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara S. (nee Sharp) Church, whom he married August 26, 1961; a son, Jeffrey (Cynthia) Church of Collinsville, IL; two grandchildren:  Justin and Ashley Church; a sister, Patti Ann Echelberger of Shelburne, VT; a nephew, Bradley and numerous cousins.

Visitation will be 10am to 12 noon on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.

Funeral service will follow at 12 noon with Father John Beveridge officiating.  Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery, Maryville, IL.

Memorials are suggested to the Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis Club, St Johns Community Care, or the donor of your choice, and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
