John Robert McCarty, age 80, of Edwardsville, IL, born April 18, 1944 in Paris, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at his residence.

John graduated from Lawrenceville Township High School in Lawrenceville, IL. He was an Air Force veteran and earned a graduate degree at the University of Illinois – Champaign and a master's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He found his calling in computer programming. He enjoyed tennis, square dancing, bicycling, hiking, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Bertis McCarty and Bertha (nee Blair) McCarty; a son, Robert McCarty; a brother and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Carole (nee Mills) McCarty, whom he married on September 9, 2009; a daughter, Erin Estabrook; a brother, Jim (Candy) McCarty of Vincennes, IN; a daughter-in-law, Susan (Hartoebben) McCarty of Festus, MO; 3 grandchildren: Jessica, Joey, and Jadyn of Festus, MO; and 1 great-grandchild, Diesel.

Memorial visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville.

Memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m.  Burial with military honors will be in Fairland Cemetery, Maryville, IL.
