Joseph Anthony "Joe" Brennan, Jr., 80, of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.
Born on January 6, 1945, in East St. Louis, IL, Joe was a 1963 graduate of Collinsville High School and later attended New Mexico State University. A talented athlete, he was a proud teammate of the undefeated 1961 Collinsville High School State Basketball Championship team. A memory he cherished throughout his life.
After college, Joe served in the U.S. Army Reserves until he became a firefighter for the Denver, CO, Fire Department. He later spent many years as a skilled stone mason, a passion of his, before retiring. He loved sports, especially basketball and golf, and also enjoyed fishing in his free time. He was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Denver Broncos, and the Denver Nuggets. A true fan of classic television and music, Joe loved watching Jeopardy and Gunsmoke and was an avid listener of Doo-Wop music.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Dorothy (née Wedemeyer) Brennan, and his brother, Kevin Brennan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan (née Anderson) Brennan, whom he married on August 8, 2008; his two loving children, Joey (Ranae) Brennan and Kim (Dan) Machado; his cherished grandchildren, Ciarra (Tee Jay) Gomez and Nick (Jada) Machado; a precious great-grandchild, Oaklee Gomez; his sister-in-law, Nancy Brennan; and two nieces, Jessica Zengel and Lindsay Brennan. He is also survived by his dear brothers-and sisters-in-law, Craig and Gail Jackson, and Bill and Jackie Heap.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed on the family's behalf to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
