Joseph A. Spurgeon, age 73 of Troy, IL, born February 10, 1946 in Mattoon, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at his residence.

Joe played baseball and football for Kansas State University and attained his four-year degree.  He retired after 31 years of teaching from the Collinsville Unit 10 School District, and was also a well-known coach. He loved to work out, and work at the CMT YMCA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty Christine ( nee Oakley) Spurgeon.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia ( nee Besant) Spurgeon; a daughter, Stacy Crow of St. Louis, MO; and two grandchildren, Rachael and Andrea Crow also of St. Louis, MO.

His wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held.

Memorials may be made to the CMT YMCA or Siteman Cancer Center and can be mailed to the funeral home.
