Obituary

Josephine "Josie" Steiner, age 65 of Collinsville, IL, born January 21, 1960, in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Josie grew up in Washington Park, Il. Josie was a 1977 Collinsville High School graduate. She retired from the Collinsville Community Unit School District 10 where she had worked as a relief aide at Maryville Elementary and Twin Echo Elementary, then a paraprofessional at Hollywood Heights and Collinsville High School.

She loved being a mother and wife. Her most proud accomplishment was her two daughters, Francesca and Marissa. She was a homemaker in their younger years and opened her home to anyone who needed it.

Josie was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching St. Louis Cardinals Baseball, and football on Sunday, Monday and Thursday nights. She spent her afternoons watching the BBC Channel and the worst B rated horror movies. She loved to read Agatha Christie books. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maria (nee Rivera) Staroba; a brother, John Staroba; a sister, Rosanne Trujillo; father-in-law, Steve Steiner; mother-in-law, Theresa Steiner; and a sister-in-law, Mary Frances Jarrett.

Surviving is her loving husband, Stephen "Steve" Steiner, whom she married October 21, 1978; two beloved daughters: Francesca (David) Kolesa and Marissa (Nathan Weber) Steiner; a brother, Ricky Staroba; and  friends who turned into family, Tina, Dom, Chris, Brian, James, Terri, Sarah B., Sara S., Konner, Andrew, Chuck, Katie and Liz. She had a special bond with her niece, Teja.

She will be missed by many extended family members including her brother-in-law, Adam Trujillo and her aunt, Kathy Staroba.

Josie's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
