Joyce Elaine McCain, age 97 of Collinsville, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.
She was born on February 1, 1927 in Collinsville to the late Albert and Clara (nee Ruppel) Scaggs. She married George C. McCain on June 16, 1946 and he preceded her in death.
Joyce was a Collinsville Township High School graduate, Class of 1945. In her earlier years, she was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for Allstate Insurance. She was a member of the Collinsville First United Methodist Church for 75+ years, an Anderson Hospital volunteer, and Lifeline volunteer at Anderson Hospital for 17 years. Joyce loved working in her flower garden and painting on canvas as well as cooking and entertaining family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Mendez.
Surviving are her two children: Dennis McCain and Linda (Robert) Nekola both of Collinsville; two grandchildren: Kerry (Brian) Basarich and Matthew Nekola; three great-grandchildren: Ben, Jack and Ella Basarich; a brother, Robert Scaggs of Lincoln, NE; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Collinsville First United Methodist Church, 207 West Church Street, Collinsville, IL.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Barclay officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
Memorials are suggested to the Collinsville First United Methodist Church, Anderson Hospital Auxiliary, or the VFW Auxiliary and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
