Leo
Maack
Jan 25, 1931 — Dec 17, 2020
Collinsville
Leo Edward Maack, 89 of Collinsville, IL, was called to Eternal Glory on December 17, 2020.
Leo was born on January 25, 1931 in St. Louis, MO to Walter Maack and Louise (nee Schilling) Maack. From a young age, he was raised on his beloved grandparent's farm in the Mississippi river bottoms near Collinsville, IL.
Following high school, Leo began work in the carpentry trade and also led instruction at the Union Carpenter Apprenticeship Program and in 1971 founded the Miller and Maack General Contractor Inc. business that thrives to this day. To say that Leo was a master craftsman with wood, is an understatement. No wood project or product exceeded his skills and ingenuity in the wood shop.
On October 26, 1952, Leo married Frieda (nee Steinmann ), the love of his life. He was an Army Korean War Veteran, and a very active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, where he taught adult Bible class for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Clara Gorg.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frieda; two sons, Greg (Carol) Maack and Andrew (Sherri) Maack; five grandchildren, Jason (LeighAnne) Maack, Melissa (Bruce J) Williams, Ashley (Jason) Phelps, Stephen Maack and Emily Maack; and 10 great grandchildren: Cole, Taylor, Natalie, William, Bella, Iliana, Porter, Ava, Addie and Everly.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 304 South Street, Collinsville, IL 62234. Masks must be worn.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at the church with Rev. Kyle Wright officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
Memorials may be made in Leo's honor to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or School and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
