Lora Darlene Cook

Lora Darlene Cook, 100, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Addington Place of Shiloh.

Darlene was born September 28, 1925, in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, to the late Harold and Madge (Foster) Loehr. On November 29, 1946, she married Oscar Lee Cook, who preceded her in death.

Darlene worked as a seamstress in a garment factory. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidery, gardening, canning, and raising chickens. She will be remembered for her many talents, her love for her family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures.

In addition to her parents and husband, Darlene was preceded in death by two sons, Jesse Gross and Roger Cook; four brothers, Sonny Loehr, Bud Loehr, Glenn Loehr, and Tiny Loehr; and a son-in-law, James A. Shaw.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Shaw; son, Wayne Gross; eight grandchildren, Dwayne Gross, James Gross, Julie Marlinghaus, Jeff Gross, Tim Shaw, Parrish Shaw, Troy Shaw, and Don Cook; sister, Lucille “Shorty” McQueen; daughters-in-law, Norma Gross and Linda Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
