Marie Emma
Ohanian
Dec 2, 1936 — Jun 16, 2024
Collinsville
Marie Emma Ohanian, age 87 of Collinsville, IL, born December 2, 1936, in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at her residence surrounded by family.
Marie was a graduate of the former St. Theresa Academy in East St. Louis. She retired from First Bank in O'Fallon, Illinois, as the head teller. Marie was best known for her caring nature and ability to socialize with everyone around her. Whether hosting large gatherings or small family dinners, she loved cooking for family and friends. Following their retirement, Haig and Marie spent their summers in Illinois going to the Muny, playing cards with friends, making waffles for family on Fridays, and occasionally drinking a "tidge" of wine or fireball. The rest of the year was spent in Sun City, Arizona, cheering on grandkids at school events, shopping at thrift stores, and doing more of what she did best, cooking for friends and family. After Haig's passing, she lived with her son and daughter-in-law in Collinsville and spent a lot of time reading, cuddling with her dog Bella, going to bingo with her daughter, and shopping at Savers with her granddaughter. Marie was so grateful for everything life gave her, and always helped her family understand that the people in our lives are what we should cherish most. She loved giving people compliments and continued to form friendships with the nurses in the hospital during the last few months of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Haig Ohanian, whom she married July 2, 1955; parents, Othmar and Alvina (nee Pfeiffer) Frisse; two brothers: Bob and Bill; and infant brother, Paul.
Surviving are her four children: Jerry (Regina) Ohanian, Annamarie (Jeff) Scharringhausen, Paul (Kathleen) Ohanian and Michael (Grace) Ohanian; nine grandchildren: Sairee (Craig) Knabe, Erica (Thomas) Doellman, Alexis (Eduardo) Reynoso, Christian Ohanian, Samuel Ohanian, Ethan Ohanian, Sophie Ohanian, Jerry Ohanian, Jr. and Sheree Ohanian; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Charlotte (Bob) Bohn and Rosemary (Jim) Fulkerson; nieces and nephews.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Maryville with Father Rob Johnson celebrant. Haig and Marie will be laid to rest together in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh, IL.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Vincent DePaul and will be received at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
